Plug in hybrid car charging stations are the dedicated infrastructure points that enable owners of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) to replenish their battery packs using electricity from the grid. While PHEVs have a smaller battery than pure electric vehicles (BEVs) and also have an internal combustion engine as a backup, the ability to charge them regularly is key to maximizing their fuel economy and realizing the environmental benefits of electric driving. These charging stations are primarily of two types for PHEVs. The most common and relevant is AC Level 2 charging. These stations are widely deployed in locations where vehicles are parked for extended periods, such as workplaces, shopping centers, public parking garages, and multi-unit residential buildings. They typically operate at 208-240V (in North America) or 230-400V three-phase (in Europe) and deliver power ranging from about 3 kW to 19 kW. For a typical PHEV with a battery capacity of 10-20 kWh, a Level 2 station can provide a full charge in 2 to 4 hours, making it perfectly suited for a workday or a few hours of shopping. The connector used for AC Level 2 charging at these stations is almost always the SAE J1772 (often called a J-plug) in North America and Japan, or the IEC Type 2 (Mennekes) in Europe and other regions. The second type, though less common for PHEVs due to their smaller batteries and limited DC fast charging capability, is DC Fast Charging. Some newer PHEV models are beginning to incorporate DC fast charging capability, typically using the CCS (Combined Charging System) connector. The presence of these stations, especially in public and workplace locations, is critical for PHEV owners who do not have access to home charging, as it allows them to participate in electric driving. The reliability of these stations depends on robust engineering. JONHON OPTRONIC TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD. manufactures the durable, high-performance connectors and inlets that ensure a safe and reliable connection every time a PHEV owner plugs in.
